Preamble

Abairifuma clan is one of the indigenous clans of the Abanyala sub-tribe of the Luhya tribe. They are predominantly found in Navakholo and Butere sub-counties of Kakamega County. Other significant clan members dwell in Busia, Bungoma and Trans Nzoia counties.

The Abairifuma clan traces its origin from our forefather Masirivai of the Purko sub-tribe of Maasai tribe. masirivai is believed to have moved from Narok county.

After assimilation with other Banyala clans, the Abairifuma rose steadily to clinch the leadership mantle. To date, the most dorminant of all the 52 clans of Banyala of Kakamega is the Abairifuma clan.
